The Orkney Cavalcade are a folk collective from Bristol who will be on tour together from 15th June- 11th July. They are headed to a tiny island called Egilsay in the Orkney Isles for a solstice festival and will be playing themselves up and back in pubs, houses, cafes and street corners.
We welcome them to Velocity Cafe for a Sunday gig on June the 29th.
The members of the collective are well known in the DIY folk scene and have supported artists such as This is the Kit, The Trembling Bells, Lisa Knapp, and Alasdair Roberts. Their music has been featured on 6music and Breakthru Radio (New York) with releases on Smuggler’s Records and the Great Pop Supplement.
The collective features:
Ruth Gordon (Cakes and Ale): ‘a wonderful mixture of the strange, the whimsical, the dark and the light’ (Searching Through the Drivel)
Andy Skellam: ‘the soundtrack to resting on a broken tree in mulchy woods’.
George Morgan: ‘his songs are like his paintings; delicate, thoughtful and glowing with twilight’.
Dan Weltman (Hollowbody, Snails): ‘sandwiched between The Zombies and Leonard Cohen- what a nice place to be!’ (The Guardian)
Cakes and Ale: ‘music this haunting and honest shouldn’t be so catchy’ (the Daily Album).
