Music | Craig Lithgow

Craig Lithgow is a Scottish singer / songwriter and guitarist, born in Livingston, raised in Kinross and now based in Edinburgh. Clearly impacted by this upbringing, Craig’s songs and lyrics often reflect a deep passion and appreciation for his roots.

Craig’s journey in music started when he formed Emelle with his brothers Owen and Rhys. Practicing their trade on the streets of Edinburgh as buskers and honing their craft on stages across the city, their lively sets - and livelier following – pricked the Edinburgian ears who touted their brilliance further afield. The journey took Emelle on various jaunts around the UK, from Saucy Mary’s in Skye to Proud Galleries in London and every town in between. Edinburgh was always held dear and a monthly slot as Neu! Reekie!’s house band meant they’d never stray too far from the nest.

Now doing the bulk of gigs on his own, Craig has travelled even further afield to share his music, performing in locations like Paris, Chicago Meran and, as recently as November, Dunedin. Off the back of a mini-tour of Scotland in October, which took him to Inverness, Aberdeen, Perth and Edinburgh, and several more UK dates booked in December, Craig is on a mission to promote his latest collection of songs featured in his Lightning Train EP.

“Craig Lithgow on guitar and vocals and brother Rhys on Cajun drum and vocal harmonies, both so in tune with each other their sound melted over the stage like warm chocolate. Touting their own brand of “domestic blues”, Emelle write songs about life, love, the quest for liberty and more – a sound worth checking out not just on New Year’s Day, but year-round.”
Kelly Apter, The Scotsman

“We’ve had our eyes on Craig Lithgow for years now – watched open mouthed at his evolution from a precociously talented young singer-songwriter to a powerful and adaptable artist. Pounding pop choruses, folk stories, subtle melodies, poetics and rhythm and blues, he’s a deft handle of it all – this can’t be said of many. To top it off, there’s something enchanting in the mix – the type of lustre that locks in the gaze and can silence a bustling bar to a pin drop.”
