'Reclaim the Night' is a campaign originally started in the early 1970's to protest against rape and other forms of violence against women. Unfortunately, some attitudes have changed very little since then. There is still an idea that walking at night is an irresponsible thing for women to do, that if a woman is wearing a short skirt she's 'asking' to be harassed, that if a women is too drunk to consent she is to blame if she is sexually assaulted.

And it's not just attitudes: in 2014-15, 1901 reports of rape or attempted rape were made to Police Scotland, and we know that only between 5-8% of victims report to the Police. Over 90% of those reports were made by women. The conviction rate for rape is less than 7% - the lowest conviction rate of any crime in Scotland.

Rape and Sexual Abuse Service Highland (RASASH) and Lochaber Women's Aid are organising the march to stand up against these dangerous attitudes, to say 'enough is enough' and to promote freedom of movement for everyone at all times.
