Book Launch | Geoff King, Echoes of the Ancestors

Highland launch for craftsman turned author

Just over a year after releasing his first novel “Echoes of the Ancestors” as an eBook, which was the Press and Journal’s book of the week in March 2014, Highland based woodcarver Geoff King has now published it as a paperback, launching it first in Edinburgh on June 20th and then in Inverness at Velocity Cafe, 1 Crown Avenue, IV2 3NF on Thursday 25th June at 7.00pm. There will be readings from the book, questions and answers and signed copies for sale, followed by live music from Henry Fosbrooke and friends.

Soon after his son Robert was published aged fifteen, Geoff decided to have a go at writing fiction in his spare time, following in his son’s footsteps. “When he was little,” says Geoff “I would make up stories to tell him as we walked to school across the fields”. However when it came to actually putting pen to paper Geoff felt more inclined to write for adults and spent eight years writing and re-drafting his 190,000 word novel. He fell in love with the process and has now started on his second and third books.

With over seven hundred people worldwide downloading the digital version of “Echoes of the Ancestors” and many favourable reviews, Geoff was given the confidence to make printed copies available.

“Publishers and literary agents receive so many submissions they don't have time to read them all,” says Geoff. “But now with print-on-demand technology you can bypass that process. It still takes a lot of work to self-edit and proof read the book, but it’s worth the effort to get it made into a paperback, which is still the most popular format for readers.”

Another advantage of print-on-demand that environmentally conscious Geoff likes is only books that are bought get printed, so there is very little waste. In the conventional publishing industry hundreds of thousands of surplus copies of each title get pulped.

Set in recent times, “Echoes of the Ancestors” is a thrilling adventure for grownups involving dreams, telepathy, psychic powers and ancestral memories. With a complex and intriguing narrative populated by engaging characters, the story builds into a compelling page turner.

“Echoes of the Ancestors” is available now from Amazon as an eBook for £2.99 or paperback for £10.99. At the Inverness launch Geoff will be selling signed copies at the special price of £8.50. He can be followed on Facebook at:
