highland community waste partnership
We are one of the founding partners of the Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP).
We aim to reduce waste and build a movement for more sustainable consumption in the Highlands, by working across the following three key areas:
Share & repair instead of buying new
Packaging and single-use items
Specifically, here at Velocity we will be leading on the following areas of work:
increasing the uptake of food waste recycling in Inverness
offering repair and upcycling workshops
piloting reusable cups and container schemes
hosting climate cafés and film nights
In addition, we will be collaborating on a number of initiatives to help raise awareness, provide skills and know-how and change the way that we all consume, that is, buy, use and dispose of things.
We are delighted to be part of the Highland Community Waste Partnership (HCWP) which aims to raise awareness of how unsustainable consumption contributes to climate change, reduce waste and build a movement for more sustainable consumption across the Highlands. The partnership is co-ordinated by the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful and funded by the National Lottery. Through a programme of collaborative grassroots activity, we will focus on key issues such as reducing food waste; tackling single use items; and increasing the use of pre-loved, repaired and shared goods. We will do this by raising awareness, learning and building skills through events and workshops and creating new systems and services through targeted projects. We want to help support communities to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute towards Scotland’s ambitions to create a more circular economy.
