Join us for a creative writing workshop with author Mandy Haggith!
Find Your Time Machine! This creative writing session will explore how you can use writing to think back in time to conjure ideas about how people have lived more sustainably in the past and then to move forwards in time to imagine a better future. The aim will be to play around with the idea of a time machine and find some optimism and ideas for how we can each make a creative contribution to climate action.
The session will last an hour and a half. It will be informal, online and no writing experience is needed.
The session will be led by Mandy Haggith, poet and novelist. Mandy lives in Assynt on a wooded coastal croft. After working as an environmental activist for twenty years, she now teaches creative writing at the University of the Highlands and Islands. She has written novels both about the past and the future - The Last Bear is set a thousand years ago, The Stone Stories trilogy (The Walrus Mutterer, The Amber Seeker and The Lyre Dancers) is set in the Iron Age, and Bear Witness is set in the future. She also writes poetry and non-fiction.
The Highland & Islands Climate Festival is a celebration of localism and community engagement with a focus on climate action to be held for the whole of September 2023!
There are limited spaces for the session so please only book if you are able to attend. This event is supported by funding provided by the Highland Community Waste Partnership.
NB: One requirement of the funding is that we collect feedback from participants about the event. You will be asked to fill out a feedback form at the end of the session.
Attendance & cancellation policy: Please only book a ticket if you know you are able to attend. If your plans change, you must cancel your ticket and let us know with at least 48 hours notice of the event start time so that others can attend.
