Join us for a creative writing workshop with author Mandy Haggith!

'Happy Endings'

Join Mandy Haggith for a creative writing session where we'll look at how to overcome overwhelming doom and gloom feelings around the climate and biodiversity crisis. We'll have some fun exploring how to find and make plausible stories that don't shy away from the climate crisis yet embrace positive futures and hopeful endings.

The session will last an hour and a half. It will be informal and no writing experience is needed.

A hot/cold non-alcoholic drink of your choice will be served between 6.30-7pm.

The session will be led by Mandy Haggith, poet and novelist. Mandy lives in Assynt on a wooded coastal croft. After working as an environmental activist for twenty years, she now teaches creative writing at the University of the Highlands and Islands. She has written novels both about the past and the future - The Last Bear is set a thousand years ago, The Stone Stories trilogy (The Walrus Mutterer, The Amber Seeker and The Lyre Dancers) is set in the Iron Age, and Bear Witness is set in the future. She also writes poetry and non-fiction.

This event is a part of the Highlands & Islands Climate Festival, a month long celebration of localism and community engagement with a focus on climate action taking place across the Highlands & Islands.

Throughout September we plan to host a number of events here at Velocity Café, as well as partnering with other venues in Inverness, supporting and celebrating Community Climate Action.
