Come along to this one off special Highland Pride Walking Book Group event!
Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop in collaboration with Inverness Kiki Family, High Life Highland Libraries, and PhD researcher Ingrid Brubaker from UHI Inverness, are excited to announce a one-off collaborative book group at the Inverness Botanic Gardens. This event is part of Highland Pride 2024 and supported by funding provided by the Highland Community Waste Partnership.
This walking book group event is an opportunity for people to meet and discuss a book that involves both LGBTQ+ and environmental topics. The event involves a walk along the banks of the River Ness from Eden Court to Inverness Botanic Gardens, followed by an informal and inclusive book group discussion around the chosen book The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline. High Life Highland Libraries have kindly provided a set of books, which participants can order from their local High Life Highland library. Please read the book before attending the session so that you can contribute to the discussion. Any issues with sourcing a copy of the book please email HCWP@velocitylove.co.uk.
Full itinerary:
11.00am - We will meet outside the front entrance of Eden Court at 11.00am (look out for the pride flag).
11.10am - Walk along the River Ness, through the beautiful Ness Islands. The walk is 1.9km (see map below for route) and we will take it at a leisurely pace allowing for conversation along the way.
12pm - 2pm - Book (The Marrow Thieves by Cherie Dimaline) group discussion in ‘The Ed Shed’, nestled at the bottom of Inverness Botanic Gardens. The Ed Shed is a lovely space that will cover us if it rains, but has glass doors that open completely so if the weather allows, we’ll be able to sit outside.
2pm - Event finishes and participants make their own way home from Inverness Botanic Gardens.
Tea, coffee, and sandwiches will be provided. Please inform us of any dietary requirements on booking.
There are limited spaces for the workshop so please only book if you are able to attend. This event is supported by funding provided by the Highland Community Waste Partnership.
NB: One requirement of the funding is that we collect feedback from participants about the event. You will be asked to fill out a feedback form at the end of the session.
Photography: We will also take photographs during the session for sharing on social media and reporting purposes. By signing up, you are giving consent to having your photo taken. If you are not comfortable having your photograph taken, please let us know (by emailing HCWP@velocitylove.co.uk).
Attendance & cancellation policy: Please only book a ticket if you know you are able to attend. If your plans change, you must cancel your ticket and let us know with at least 48 hours notice of the event start time so that others can attend.
For any questions or accessibility requirements, please email HCWP@velocitylove.co.uk .
